Sisters' Market

A busy day at the Sisters' Market yesterday! There were plenty of people out finishing off their Christmas shopping in spite of the rainy unpredictable Melbourne weather. We had a great day meeting other lovely stallholders and lots of lovely customers. Fortunately for us, we had lots of sales and the sugarmouse stall was looking a little bare by the end! Most dollies found new homes yesterday so I will be creating new ones over the next couple of months.

Boy vintage

I found this fabric and bought some without thinking about a project to use it for...I often do that - buy fabric because I love it and then wait for the idea to come to me! I decided to make some simple wall hangings from this - the square shape lends itself so well and they are so simple to make. No little boys walls in my house so these will be on sale at the Sisters' Market in December.

Little Paper-y People

I love paper dolls, especially vintage looking little girls. I remember being fascinated by them as a child and still adore them now I am all grown up. I have printed some off for my little ones to play with and I am now dreaming up ways to incorporate them into my craft. Whenever I see vintage sets come up for sale on ebay or etsy, I am sorely tempted to add them to my collection!

Hey Dollface

I love making dolls, choosing the fabric combos and especially creating their faces. I never really have a clear plan but just let the face and hair evolve by trying out new stitches and techniques. I have rediscovered the joy of working with felt as well. When each doll is finished, I run them by my girls for approval. Some have arms and legs and others are just simple cuddle dolls for little ones. I don't like to use buttons or beads as I want the dolls to be soft all over with no potential hazards. I will have quite a few for sale at the Sisters' Market
in December.

Flirty skirts for summer fun!

I am really enjoying creating these skirts for my girls and will have a limited number for sale at the market. They are light-weight denim with a bit of stretch; an elastic waist and a contrasting wrap panel at the front which you can make up in the fabric of your choice. The wrap is a 'fake' wrap so underneath in actually a full skirt - the girls can run, jump and play in comfort with no unfortunate flashing incidents!

Looking for good homes

This fabric is so beautiful - it's a little large for applique but makes such sweet dolls, just looking for little girls to love them. These will be available at the Sisters' Market in December, along with lots of other goodies.

Yarraville Market

More market photos from my stall at the Yarraville Markets on Saturday 4 September. A great market in a lovely location and lots of talented people. The market is on every month - go to Yarraville Market for details. These photos were taken by Lou Pennisi and I have borrowed them for posting here.

Wise old owls

Earlier this year, we had an owl family take up residence in a tree in our backyard. The Mum and Dad owl had been there before but this time, they had 2 little ones in tow...we are hoping they will come back soon. I made these softies from wool-felt, linen and cotton in lovely muted tones and they will be for sale at my stall at the Sisters' Market at Brunswick Town Hall on Dec 18...pop by and say hello!

More t designs

I found this great fabric at one of my favourite fabric haunts in Melbourne...it has lots of different vintage children on it and is very cute. I haven't seen it around before. I am making a range of girls t-shirts using the images combined with other fabrics and these will be available in sizes 0 to 4.

Material girl

Feeling virtuous today as i have been organising all my sewing supplies, including my fabric stash - what a thing of beauty, though pic only shows a small part! Here's hoping I can keep it this way for a while.

Another from my t-shirt range, made using a simple spot
paired with a vintage print. I love reds and blues on my girls...
pink is not the only option!

Vintage kids

I have had this fabric in the stash for quite some time and have been thinking about what to do with it. Like many other pieces of my fabric, I am reluctant to cut into it. I am sure I will find a use for it soon - love these images of vintage kids playing. I should be inside sewing today but the sun is too glorious outside!

Biased

I love bias binding - not sure why. One of my fave fabric stores in Melbourne (GJs Discount Fabric in Lygon St Brunswick) has a great range of colours and sizes. I make my own if I can't find the right one in store.

Fabric

I just love this fabric - I have used this in 2 skirts already and am about to make another one. This is the front panel and the rest is denim....very cute.
Now to keep the girls occupied for an hour or so while I create - easier said than done, especially in this Melbourne heatwave when it's too hot to play outside!
